Creation of the Association of Higher Educational Institutions of the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran

On October 28, 2015 the Intellectual Center of the Fundamental Library of Lomonosov Moscow State University hosted the Forum of Rectors of higher educational institutions of Russia and Iran.

The representatives signed the Memorandum on the establishment of the Association of Higher Educational Institutions of the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The document was signed by the President of the Russian Union of Rectors, Rector of the Lomonosov Moscow State University V.A. Sadovnichy, on the Russian part, and by the President of the Summit of Rectors of the leading universities of Iran, Rector of the University of Tehran Mahmoud Nili Ahmadabadi, on the Iranian part.

"Today we are creating the Association of the leading universities of Iran. The Association will provide closer scientific and educational cooperation in the spheres of mining, environment protection, natural sciences, humanitarian researches, and other fields of science," V. Sadovnichy said.

In his turn, Mahmoud Nili Ahmadabadi confirmed the seriousness of the both parties' intentions and outlined a number of prospects and tasks. "The signing of the Memorandum aims to facilitate the exchange of students, professor and scientists between Russia and Iran. We should work on synergistic projects. Such proposals will contribute to the development of bilateral relations, it is a valuable asset for the realization of the common objectives of our states."

First Deputy Minister of Education of Iran Mohammad Saeed Taslimi remarked that the signing of the Memorandum would be impossible without the participation of the authorized representatives of Russia and Iran and expressed special thanks to the Russian President's aide Andrei Fursenko, who has created the basis for the signing of the Memorandum, and determined the course of further development of bilateral cooperation. "The creation of the university network is an important milestone. The agreement forms the basis for further cooperation. Now we should make our best efforts to ensure every clause of these documents to be implemented and brought to practice," Mohammad Taslimi said.

Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Russia Alexander Klimov remarked that Iran belongs to the traditional partners of Russia in the sphere of science and education, and the countries have been cooperating since 1960. Klimov also gave a number of examples: Iran has activated cooperation, for example, in the field of student exchange with higher educational institutions of Povolzhye in a number of specialties in the sphere of high technologies.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mehdi Sanai expressed his confidence that the bilateral cooperation would be further substantially developed in all areas.

"I am very pleased that we are present at the meeting of rectors of Iranian and Russian universities. It is held at a time when the relations between Iran and Russia in all spheres are developing in the spirit of mutual understanding between the two countries. The fact that the leading Iranian and Russian universities are being formed into the Association is a great benefit for the scientific community of Iran and Russia, and it gives a new stimulus for the development of our relations.

At the Forum of rectors of Russia and Iran, the MSU and the leading Iranian Shahid Beheshti University signed an agreement on the establishment of scientific and educational center "Lomonosov" in Tehran and its partner "Razi" in Moscow. The Agreement provides coordination of scientific research, joint scientific conferences, educational programs, including distance education, electronic resources exchange and other activities and events.

"This cooperation is very important for the Moscow University, it will affect the educational and scientific spheres of activity and will make it possible to increase the number of the existing projects, including the creation of Master robotic telescopes," Rector of the MSU, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences V.A. Sadovnichy said.

Rector of the Shahid Beheshti University Mohammad Mehdi Tehrani added, in his turn. There is "No doubt, we are making a great step towards each other, which will further strengthen the ties between our countries".

Summarizing, all participants of the First Forum of Rectors of Russia and Iran expressed their confidence that the scientific and educational cooperation between the both countries would actively grow.
